Mountain goats, licking salt from climber's pack Mountain goats, licking salt from climber's pack, Gladys Pass, Olympic National Park,Washington. While we climbed Cruiser on a cross country trip thru the Olympics, some local goats adopted us - they licked the salt from our packs, fought over & split a pair of wool pants, then followed us the rest of the day. They generously let us break trail across steep snow slopes, then spent the night licking our tent. As we groggily prepared to leave the next morning, they were peacefully napping some yards away.
