SS. Sergius & Bacchus [Kuyuk Aya Sofya Cami]
Begun by Justinian, completed in 536. Named after 2 early Christian martyrs who became patron saints of the army.
Later converted to a mosque. Under heavy restoration during our recent
[2006] visit; delightful tea garden / pension nearby. The capitals of the
columns are some of the best examples of the 6th c technique of deep
undercutting Melon capital SS. Sergius & Bacchus
