Musa came up with another good suggestion for changing the itinerary - we drove up to the large meadow area of Bezirgan to start. Climbed up Gol Dag by easy trail, past several herds of goats (stopping to talk with the herders), through maquis and other brambles, oregano and sage, to reach an old well near the top. Hard to tell how old it was, perhaps ancient as the border had well made stones, more elaborate than we'd see in modern concrete constructions. Also saw ruins of an old watchtower. Clambered over the top, and then down a steep gully, coming out near where we'd started, but traversing across over a jeep track past fields of wheat, with bright spots of purple vetch, and cave houses carved into the limestone cliffs. Just before reaching the road, we met Shaba, the boy we'd seen higher up - he'd taken his goats down a shorter, steeper way while we were traversing to the well. A Lycian tomb with soldiers and other carvings stood near the road. About 2 hrs Back in the van, we drove a short distance to the village where we stopped for lunch at a pretty house with cool porch and sitting area, surrounded by grape vines and orchard; various swallows, sparrows and other birds flying around and through. It being Sunday, there were visitors covering 3 or 4 generations. The women prepared a fire and made fresh gozleme (with spinach and cheese), then a full lunch brought out on a tray with noodles, coos coos, excellent eggplant & zuccini, salad and stuffed grape leaves. After the meal, one of the younger women brought out several large baskets that had handmade lace items rather than the dessert. After tea, walked across the rest of the bowl like meadow to a shallow pass at the end, and then down to Akbel area (about 6 km, just under 2 hours). Starting on limestone rocky track, maquis and other brambles, then changing to wheat and fields lower down. Coming out at a cistern and spring, with the requisite village men, sitting under a shady tree, and ensuring no one runs off with the cistern. Tea break at Yazilkoy while Mustafa drove Musa back to his house, watching the end of market day, then a 30 km drive around the coast to Kac, to stay at the Hera Hotel. Sea view from the balcony, but too tired to try the pool, much less walk down to the beach. Nice looking town - much smaller version of Bodrum, with boats and gulets on one side of the street, and small hotels and cafes on the other.
